Dr. Edward Sonnenberg received his received his Bachelor of the Arts in Biology from New York University, his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Columbia School of Dental Medicine, and his certification in pediatric dentistry from the University of Connecticut. He has been practicing since 1975, but prides himself on continuing to learn about new developments and advances within the field of dentistry.
Dr. Sonnenberg is an active educator to residents of Morristown Medical Center and to postgraduate students at his alma mater, Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. Dr. Ed is a member of multiple professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the New Jersey Dental Association. He is also a fellow of the Academy of Dentistry for Patients with Special Needs.
Before establishing himself as a dentist, Dr. Edward Sonnenberg grew up in Brooklyn. He now resides in Rockaway, New Jersey. Dr. Ed is extremely passionate about his family, as he watches all of his five children — Nicole, Kirsten, Brian, Rachel, and Lauryn — grow into contributing members of society. He also enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, Jesse and Emma. Before dentistry, Dr. Ed raised cats, and his love for animals still holds: he currently has a grand-kitten, Nori.
When Dr. Sonnenberg is not working, you can find him playing golf, watching golf, or talking about golf. He is also an avid fan of the New York Rangers. Dr. Ed loves to travel, and shares that hobby with his wife Shelley. He loves to make his voice heard in the community as a volunteer for the Boys & Girls Club of Newark, where he gives free dental treatment to the children. Dr. Ed also participates in the Donated Dental Services program, which treats special needs patients in New Jersey.
Dr. Edward Sonnenberg loves working with his special needs patients and finds it especially rewarding when he is able to watch a scared child conquer fears and become a great patient.
Dr. Ed, along with his experienced staff, aims to make each and every child feel welcome and enthusiastic about going to the dentist. From the greeting at reception, extending to the completion of care, each and every staff member smiles and is supportive.
As a second-generation dentist, and his son shortly to become the third, Dr. Edward Sonnenberg believes that dentistry has been, and continues to be, an integral part of his life since childhood. He feels he has the necessary flexibility to satisfy all kinds of children’s dental needs and demonstrates a good balance of firmness and fun!
